Where is the end of the joy caused by this altered state of consciousness and where does the shallowness-caused numbness begin? The Vocal Booth
I recently worked as a freelance recording engineer at The Vocal Booth on Malik al Nasir’s upcoming audiobook, Searching for My Slave Roots—a BBC-commissioned project for Audible. Malik’s powerful narrative uncovers his Guyanese-Caribbean heritage and the lasting impact of the transatlantic slave trade. My role was to ensure his voice was captured with clarity and emotional depth, helping deliver a broadcast-quality experience for this significant production.
Working as a Sound Recordist
In January-February I had the chance to try myself out as a location sound recordist on a feature film directed by Roger Appleton. It was my responsibility to make sure that the recorded sound is clear and crisp, that the dialogue is clean and to give feedback when it was necessary to go again on a take, or to record wild takes. Other duties were ensuring the best possible mic placements with the help of a boom operator and keeping daily log sheets to aid the efficiency of post-production.
